Regular registration extended through August 31st

Hey pilots, we are extending Race of Champions regular registration two more weeks. Late registration kicks on on September 1st for all classes except Sportsman.

Registration helps us plan a better event and if you don’t register early, you may be the one getting a small size event shirt!

Don’t forget our class discount offer for folks registering by the regular registration deadline. We will provide a 50% discount off a class entry for each new pilot you sponsor to the Race of Champions in October. You must register by August 31, 2021 to take advantage of this offer. Your sponsored pilot may register later.

Registration is at https://flylowflyfast.com

Registration for the 2021 Race of Champions is now open!

Register via the link above.

We are super excited to announce the venue for the 2021 Race of Champions and new for 2022, the reintroduction of a multi-event race series! Thank you for your patience as you saved the date and we threaded the needle through logistics and agreements.

The 2021 Race of Champions will be held October 14-17 at the Gila Bend Municipal Airport, an hour drive from Phoenix.

For 2022, we will have a spring race at the New Coalinga Municipal Airport, in the San Joaquin Valley area and an hour drive from Fresno. Exact dates to be determined, but we anticipate this new event sometime in March. We will have the Race of Champions in mid-October as usual at the Gila Bend Municipal Airport.

Both of these airports are very well suited for air racing with strong local support for these events.

Now get those planes dusted off, tuned up and in their air!

2020 Race of Champions cancelled

It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Race of Champions.

We know that this will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to the racers, but to the fans and USRA members.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have caused us to make this decision at this time. First is the uncertainty caused by the fact that gatherings of greater than 10 people are still not legally allowed in California, creating the situation where special use permits are not being issued for events. There is no anticipated short term improvement in local pandemic conditions that would likely change this position. Second, our primary concern is always the responsibility we feel towards the safety of racers, volunteers and attendees. While this event is outdoors, there are many challenges in implementing a practicable COVID-19 mitigation plan that would be approved and not hinder race operations.

Stay tuned for more upcoming regional test and practice sessions. Racing is only paused.

COVID-19 Update

As everyone is well aware of, events being able to be held are in a state of uncertainty. Until California counties reach a Stage 3 variance, hotels and events are not allowed by law. At this point, we are planning for the Race of Champions to go on as planned in October at the California City municipal airport. We are also teeing up Rabbit dry Lake as a backup site. Our go/no go date is July 31. We will assess our status at that point with regards to permitting and registration. In the event of an event cancellation, all registration fees will be refunded 100%

2020 race status

Just a quick update on the 2020 Race of Champions. At this point, we are on! However, that does come with a couple of significant caveats.

1) We are still in the permitting process (which is typical to do at this point in time), but no permits are going to be issued anytime soon due to indefinite restrictions on group events. We are pursuing California City and as backup, Rabbit Dry Lake.

2) With the economic outcome still highly uncertain at this point, sponsorships and attendance levels may be rather challenging for the next 12 months or so.

We will reach out over the coming weeks as we get a better grasp on how things will play out on permitting, attendance, insurance and the myriad other elements that must come together to host an amazing and safe event.Stay safe and thanks for your understanding.
